Life of a Coin

Another day another chance to get played,

The light comes on but all I see is the shade

The machine tells me to wait my turn

That every single opportunity’s earned

Chatter outside about who’s in control

They feed in dollar bills in exchange for my soul

Emptied by the dozens, to them we all look the same

Watch my dreams come true, yet they call it a game

A pipeline of pockets just to feel alive

The clashing and clinking of ideas never realized

Against my will I’m pushed through the slot

They say a high always comes with a drop

I hear the hand of God above reach for their prize

Unspoken promises one day it’ll be mine

Bodies pile believing the world is still mendable

Two sides of a coin and they’re both expendable

My whole life building wealth when I don’t know how to

Those that milk my worth, say I have no monetary value

Left behind in a phony silver-lined sea

They come to collect only when they’re in need

Rinse and repeat, I’m a slave to the cycle

Back to the machine that facilitates the spiral

I’ll serve my purpose until I’m eventually replaced

Phased out by the innovation of the digital age

I was fresh and shiny with no knowledge of this place

Longing to go back to before I knew the arcade
