Player 2 (Insight)
Player 2 was a poem that was inevitable. Video games are my favorite thing on this planet (aside from my favorite people). I’ve been playing since I was 4 years old, taking turns playing Yoshi’s Island with my mom and older sister on the Super Nintendo. When I started taking writing more seriously, I knew I wanted to incorporate video games into a poem somehow and for a while, I was unsure of exactly how to do that. Eventually, the idea of a non-existent “player 2” came along. Through most of middle school and high school I felt very alone, even though I knew I had people that loved me. I used video games as an escape, I didn’t need anyone if I wasn’t attached to reality. I hope you enjoy reading Player 2 by Daniel Peiffer.
Bonus: My favorite game of all time is Super Smash Bros. and yes, I am cheating by naming an entire series as my favorite game. This is because, however, every time a new entry in the series has come out, it instantly became my favorite game without fail. I have invested countless hours into this series and played multiple titles competitively. The height of my “career”, was winning a three-person free-for-all tournament (items on) in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Receiving a copy Brawl on release night for free as a prize at a Game Crazy in Manassas, Virginia.
