Life’s a Bitch, Then You Die (Insight)

Life’s a Bitch, Then You Die is, depressing to say the least. It works as sort of a response to those that say everything happens for a reason or that our lives are part of some sort of grand plan. This poem was heavily inspired by the story of Junko Furuta of Japan, a teenager who was kidnapped, tortured, assaulted and beaten for 40 days. The details are brutal and graphic; discretion is advised if you’d like to look into it more. I fully understand life can be beautiful; there are many things to be grateful for, things to find joy in. Sometimes, however, life is ugly, sometimes terrible things happen to people that are undeserving, for no reason. I think it’s important not to minimize what others have been through or how unfortunate life can be for others. “They’ve felt the breeze of the atomic bomb” encapsulates the idea of those that can find the good in everything, when really, it’s okay to accept that sometimes life fucking sucks. I hope you enjoy reading Life’s a Bitch, Then You Die by Daniel Peiffer.
