Family Tree

I can’t tell the branches from snakes

These roots have grown in shallow dirt

I’ve built my home here

It’s empty and withered,

but isn’t that what a home is?

I’ll turn the whole thing to splinters,

Before I let someone turn their back on me

Relationships fade like sawdust in the wind

I’ll never be broken down again,

Even if I have memorized the way the pieces fit
