Seven (Insight)

Seven is a poem that is not very subtly themed around the seven deadly sins. The Seven deadly sins have always been a concept I have been fascinated with. It’s hard to pinpoint an exact influence since the idea is so prevalent in multiple forms of media, but the single biggest influence would probably have to be the movie Se7en directed by David Fincher. For this poem, I wanted to channel the direct feelings I had when engaging in these so called “sins”, embracing them to the fullest in the heat of the moment. Nobody is perfect, and we all as people have done harmful things in our lives. This poem explores the darker side of humanity and its engagement with those wrongdoings without self-reflection. You may have caught that there are seven syllables in each of the seven lines for each of the seven stanzas. It was a fun little challenge I made for myself when writing this piece.
