The Devil Saved My Life (Insight)
The Devil Saved My Life is the turning point for Danny, he crosses a line he can no longer come back from. This piece is meant for the end of the second chapter of Bottled Tears Spoil to Rage, thus catapulting Danny into completely giving in to his darker side. This piece actually started out as two separate writings, the conversation with the demon serving as a ‘prequel’ to the event that follows. I decided to merge them since they were so similar. You may have been able to guess, but this one was heavily influenced by Eminem, Kim & My Darling to be exact. I liked the idea of arguing with your inner demon and eventually giving in, kind of like the classic good guy bad guy on your shoulder, but without the little angel. It doesn’t take much convincing for Danny, at this point he has been through a lot in the book and vengeance is in his heart. If you’ve heard Kim you know it’s about him killing his ex-wife and it’s pretty brutal. You could tell Marshall was hurt and in love, I’ve never heard raw emotion like that conveyed better on a song. When I wrote this, I was an angry teenager that felt hurt and like my world was ending. I think it’s important that everyone has an outlet to release their deepest emotions and for me that just happens to be writing. I hope you enjoy reading The Devil Saved My Life by Daniel Peiffer.
